– 1 lb. turnips (about two large turnips) peeled, washed, and cut into ½ inch thickness
– 1 small beet peeled, washed, and cut into ½ inch thickness
– 1 teaspoon black peppercorns optional
– ½ teaspoon red chili flakes optional
