Easy Banana Chocolate Chip Scones

  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ¼ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter cold
  • 3 medium ripe bananas about 1 cup mashed banana
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste
  • ½ cup heavy cream plus 2 tablespoons for brushing the scones before baking
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup white chocolate chips melted (optional)


  • In a large bowl whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix until all dry ingredients are well combined.
  • Grate the cold butter with a cheese grater into the flour mixture and toss to combine with flour until you have a crumbly mixture.
  • Add mashed banana, heavy cream, and vanilla to the flour mixture. Stir with a fork until it starts to come together and forms large clumps. Add the chocolate chips.
  • Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface. knead it and shape it into a ball. Press down the ball into an 8-inch circle. Cut into 8 triangles using a sharp knife or a bench scraper.
  • Transfer the triangles to a prepared baking sheet and freeze for 20 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Brush the scones with heavy cream, and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Broil on high if needed.
  • Transfer them to a cooling rack and let cool down for 10 minutes before serving.
  • Drizzle with melted white chocolate.
