What Are Brussel Sprouts?

Brussel sprouts are thought to have originated in the city that bears their name, Brussels, Belgium. Records show that they first appeared in the Brussels area in the 13th century.

Brussels sprouts are members of the same species and family as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, and kale. They are low in calories, high in fiber, and high in nutrients. Sprouts are also high in vitamins A, C, and K, as well as folic acid.

I love the look of Brussels sprouts – their round, perfect sprouts are evenly distributed among thick stalks, and their tall leaves tower at the top.

What is Sriracha Sauce?

The Sriracha hot sauce is named after the Thai city Si Racha, where it was first introduced over 80 years ago. Chili peppers, distilled vinegar, garlic, sugar, and salt are used to make this Southeast Asian hot sauce. A drizzle goes well with rice, noodles, eggs, and a variety of other foods.

Sriracha is a spicy, sweet, and tangy sauce. It’s a condiment you should always have on hand.

Ingredients for BJ’s Honey Sriracha Brussel Sprouts

You will need the following ingredients to make these Spicy Brussel Sprouts:

Brussel sprouts: Fresh is best! Choose brussels sprouts with bright green leaves that are tightly packed. Avoid yellowing ones. Store them in the refrigerator once you get them home from the grocery store or market. You can also use frozen sprouts. If you’re using frozen ones, pour the bag of frozen sprouts in the basket and bake at 390 for 14 minutes.

Sriracha: The recipe calls for 2 teaspoons sriracha. You can add a little more if you prefer things spicy. Sriracha can be found in the global section of grocery stores or online.

Honey: Honey’s sweetness balances out the spiciness in the Sriracha sauce.

Olive Oil: You will need olive oil to coat the sprouts before placing them in the air-fryer.

Sesame Seeds: Adding sesame seeds is optional, but they give a kick to this dish.

How to Cut Brussel Sprouts

Brussel Sprouts should be trimmed and halved before roasting. Place them cut-side down on the baking sheet. They will caramelize nicely on the cut side, but the outer leaves will remain crisp. Do not discard the outer leaves that fall away when you cut the sprouts.

How to Make BJ’s Brussel Sprouts in the Air-Fryer

You can cut down your cooking time by air frying these honey sriracha Brussel sprouts.

Simply toss your Brussel sprouts in olive oil (or spray with cooking spray) and salt, then place them in your air fryer basket. You need to avoid stacking them on top of one another to keep them crispy.
