How to Make Ramadan Bread
- In a bowl, add water, yeast, and sugar. Mix them and set your bowl aside until the yeast activates.
- Once the yeast has activated, add flour, salt, egg white, and the 2 tbsps of olive oil.
- Knead the dough for 5-10 minutes on a floured surface until a ball is formed. It’s normal for the dough to be a little sticky. Oil your hands before working with the dough.
- Oil a bowl and place the dough ball in there, then cover it with plastic wrap. Keep the dough covered in a warm place for an hour until it has doubled in size.
- Place the dough on a clean, floured surface and knead it with your hands or with a rolling pin until a round or oval shape is formed. Cover your baking dish with baking paper and place the shaped dough in it
- Mix 2 tbsps. Of water with 4 tbsps. Of flour to form a paste. Dip your fingers or a fork in the paste and go around the edges of the bread to form a nice crust. With the same method, shape the middle of the dough to a baklava or diamond pattern.
- Cover the bread and let it rest for another hour. It will be rise up and be very puffy.
- Combine the egg yolk with 1 tbsp. Of yogurt and 1 tbsp. Of olive oil. Use your finger very gently to brush the bread with the mixture.
- Sprinkle the bread with toasted sesame seeds and black seeds.
- Bake on the pre-heated oven at 375 F for 15-20 minutes.
- When the bread is taken out of the oven, cover it with a kitchen towel to keep it warm and soft.
